Benefits Expressed In Euros & Cents

At times it is out of question whether or not EDI communication should be implemented. If a supplier risks to be excluded from a deal with a retail chain, or if conventional invoicing incurs a penalty, the remaining cardinal question is how EDI will be implemented.

Neither are Return on Investment (ROI) calculations easy to implement. Integral costs of individual processes cannot be readily quantified and thus it is hard to objectively measure the economizing potential of a given process.

Either way, the question of benefits is not a marginal one.

A simple examplary calculation The benefits as perceived by our Clients
Let's assume you issue 1000 invoices a year to various clients.

Postage fees are at € 550,– – with increasing tendency.
Printing expense at roughly € 0,025, a page amounts to some € 25,–.
Envelopes come at ca. € 35,–.
You have to calculate at the very least 2,5 hours a month for invoice handling, which is 30 hours a year. If calculated at € 20,– this means an annual € 600,–.

Even next to a conservative calculation – consider that a € 20,– hourly work expense is exceptionally low – you'll realize that in case of conventional invoice data exchange you run into annual expenses in excess of € 1.200,–.

Yet the above simple calculation does not consider
problems with printers
delays due to postal delivery
problems due to faulty handling
– in brief, all the incidentals and imponderabilities of conventional invoicing on the expense of your time and resources.
